mwĩrĩhĩria
- avenger. Avenger. A person who has the right and duty to exact retribution or vengeance, especially in cases of bloodshed; one who seeks justice for wrongs committed against family or kin.
Example: Mwĩrĩhĩria wa thakame ĩo ĩitĩtwo, we mwene nĩwe ũkoraga mũũragani ũcio; o hĩndĩ ĩrĩa angĩcemania nake-rĩ, noguo angĩmũũraga. (The avenger of blood is the one who will kill the murderer, putting the individual to death on sight.); hĩndĩ ĩo andũ monganĩte magĩtue cira ũkoniĩ mũgũthani ũcio na mwĩrĩhĩria thakame ĩo ĩitĩtwo, o ta ũrĩa ũhoro wa macira macio ũtariĩ; (then the community will judge between the assailant and the avenger of blood in accordance with these norms.)
