mĩrũũthi
- lions. Lions. Large carnivorous wild cats; in biblical contexts often used in the phrase 'irima rĩa mĩrũũthi' (lions' pit/den).
Example: Nao magĩikia Danieli irima rĩa mĩrũũthi, agĩikara kuo mĩthenya ĩtandatũ. (They threw Daniel into a pit of lions. He was there six days.); Nĩathaakire na mĩrũũthi ta arĩ tũũri twa mbũri, na agĩthaaka na nduba ta arĩ tũgondu. (He played with lions as though they were young goats, and with bears, like lambs of the flock.)
