iguĩra
- have mercy on. Have mercy on. To feel compassion or pity for someone; to show kindness or forgiveness to another person. Often used in contexts of divine mercy or interpersonal compassion.
Example: Tuĩka mũtaana kũrĩ andũ arĩa me muoyo, na ndũkaage kũiguĩra akuũ tha. (Give your gift to all the living, and do not withhold your kindness from the dead.); Ũguo-rĩ, gũgakĩoneka atĩ nĩaiguagĩra tha o ũrĩa enda kũiguĩra, ningĩ ũrĩa enda kũũmia ngoro, ũcio akamũũmia. (Consequently, he has mercy upon whom he wills, 11:30–32; Ex 4:21; 7:3. and he hardens whom he wills. The basic biblical principle is: those who will not see or hear shall not see or hear. On the other hand, the same God who thus makes stubborn or hardens the heart can reconstruct it through the work of the holy Spirit.)
