Ashera
- Asherah pole. A wooden cult object or sacred pole associated with the Canaanite goddess Asherah, forbidden in Israelite worship; often erected near altars.
Example: Ndũkanehandĩre Ashera ya mũtĩ o na ũrĩkũ mwena-inĩ wa kĩgongona kĩrĩa ũgathondekera Jehova Ngai waku. (You shall not plant an asherah of any kind of wood next to the altar of the L ord , your God, which you will build;); O nacio nyũmba cia ũmaraya wa arũme na arũme agĩcitharia, o icio ciarĩ thĩinĩ wa nyũmba ya Jehova, harĩa andũ-a-nja maatumagĩra matama ma gũcunjurio ma Ashera. (He tore down the apartments of the cult prostitutes in the house of the L ord , where the women wove garments for the Asherah. Dt 23:18–19.)
