anyanya
- lovers, paramours. Lovers. Illicit lovers or paramours, especially used metaphorically in prophetic texts to describe foreign nations or idols with whom Israel committed spiritual adultery; can also refer to literal sexual partners in contexts of immorality.
Example: Tondũ ũcio ngĩkĩmũrekereria ngĩmũneana moko-inĩ ma anyanya acio ake, o moko-inĩ ma Aashuri, acio eyendeire. (Therefore I handed her over to her lovers, to the Assyrians for whom she lusted.); Nake agĩkĩũmbwo nĩ anyanya ake, nao nĩo maiyũrĩtwo nĩ thuti ta marĩ ndigiri, na makoimwo nĩ hinya ta wa mbarathi. (She lusted for the lechers of Egypt, whose members are like those of donkeys, whose thrusts are like those of stallions.)
